The Advanced NMS Course is the new name for the OMT Course. It is an evidence-based course grounded in the biopsychosocial management of patients with neuro-musculoskeletal pain and dysfunctions. It has been run annually by the OMPTG group of the SASP since its inception in the 1970’s. It is constantly evolving to keep up to date with the latest evidence and best clinical practice internationally. The content of the course complies with the educational standards of the International Federation of Manipulative Physiotherapy (IFOMPT). Currently over 1800 physio’s in SA have successfully completed the course and exams. The course covers the current approach to joint, muscle and peripheral neural tissue treatment, introduction to pain, communication skills, rehabilitation and movement control. The course is run over 5 modules and all lecturers have a post-grad qualification. Practical sessions are well supervised. To qualify for a certificate, a national exam consisting of theoretical, practical and clinical components, as well as a research component, must be successfully completed. The OMT course runs over 1 year starting early 2020 and ending with an open examination in October 2020.
